52nd Annual Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival

Posted by Shane On March 18th

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great. It has been very cold here in Lee County for way to long. It seems as though we are not getting any warming breaks with the exception of today Wednesday March 10. It is actually up to 82 degrees wah hoo, it is about time. It is sunny out and beautiful blue skies. No, I am not out in the boat; I am inside working diligently like I am supposed to be. Hopefully we will start to see some warmer weather here real soon. Spring Break has kicked off for many northern schools and it seems like all the Spring Breakers and families are making their way to Ft. Myers Beach. It is great to see all this activity and money being brought into our local economy.

This leads me in to my next boating guide tip. This weekend is the 52nd annual; yes 52nd annual Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival. What a great time!!!! Saturday (March 13, 2010) morning the sky bridge (bridge from the main land to Ft. Myers Beach) will close at 9:00 a.m. So if you are coming by car get there early. If you choose to park on the main land side, you can take the trolley over. Now for the boaters you can come anytime. My suggestion would be to anchor just off the beach near the pier and walk into shore. (weather permitting) if it is windy and rough, you will want to come on the inside of Ft. Myers Beach and tie up at one of the restaurants or you can anchor on the inside of Bow Ditch point, it is the most northern end of Ft. Myers Beach and walk to Time’s Square where all the activities are, anchoring there would be my last choice, because you would have to walk a ways to get to Time’s Square.

At 9:30 there is a 5K Race and it is my understanding the Shrimp Festival Parade starts at 10:00 am. It is about 2 hours long. It is a great time. All the food, drink vendors and Craft vendors will be there. Of course there will be ice cold beverages. There are also plenty of restaurants you can stop into as well.

The weather man is saying Saturday should be about 75 degrees out and sunny. If this is the case, it will be a beautiful day. If you cannot make it on Saturday, come on Sunday.

We have gone to the Shrimp Festival for many years and even used to ride on one of the Shrimp boats for the blessing of the fleet. This is a great time for the whole family, you will have a ball whether you come by car or by sea, I would suggest coming by sea, it will be much more fun. Sorry for no photos, could not find them from the years before.

Come on down if you can, it will be a great time for everyone.

Until next time, enjoy time with your family and friends. Make time to do fun stuff, life goes by so fast.

Take Care

P.S. Looking for other places to go on Ft. Myers Beach to eat or get a drink or even just off the beach (main land side) but still dine on the water, go to ShaneWaterfrontWilson.com and look under the boating guide. I have several places for you to go. Enjoy!!!!
